hey didnt even get a chance to read it before i left but none of the problems you stated above are really an issue, theres a small small oil leak but my mechanic said it was so minor that hes not gunna charge me for the fix

but as of 3:00 today im a proud owner of honda cm400

i honestly have no idea whether i want to chop or leave it stock but i think i need to learn to ride before i can think about that stuff

There isn't really anything out of the ordinary to look for? Many of the older bikes you will come across may have a lot of rust or have been sitting for a long time. This could mean spending quite a bit of money to replace parts. Not a big deal if you're going to be chopping the bike. But if you're going to be using as a daily rider then keep looking.

Check for rust in the gas tank. If there is rust around the fill cap there could be more rust on the inside. These rust could break off into big flakes and clog the carbs. If that is the case then you would need to rebuild the carbs and repair/replace the gas tank.

Hope this helps.
